NCAC Network Printing Quick Reference


If you need printer toner: DO NOT ask me. I do not maintain any office supplies. Arrangements have been made with the SEAS Administrative offices to order and stock toner cartridges.

The available printers are:

Windows 2000 printer setup

  1. Add a new HP Standard TCP/IP Port in printer ports. The Printer Name is it's FQDN and the Port Name is the bold identifier above.
  2. In the printer settings add a new printer, or select an existing printer, and set it to use the new port. Use the appropriate PostScript driver for the printer model.

Xerox WorkCentre 7655

The NCAC Xerox WorkCentre 7655 can be configured just as easily and is great for high volume, color, or double-sided printing. See my Xerox guide.


MacOS X Hints

Since MacOS X 10.3 you can Add a printer using IP Printing, Socket/HP Jet Direct. For all our HP printers this is the preferred method. LPD/LPR will be turned off on the Jet Direct cards.

Update: IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) seems to be well supported on Irix, OS X, and Windows. This is the preferred printing method.

After adding a printer to the Printer List, be sure to show info on it and change the name and location to the above standard names.

Also edit the installable options for the following:

  1. HP4050TN: Printer Hard Disk: RAM Disk. Total memory is 24MB. Tray 3 is installed. Tray 4 is not installed.
  2. HPCOLOR4550: Printer Hard Disk: RAM Disk. Total memory is 64MB.
  3. HP4100N: Printer Hard Disk: RAM Disk. Total memory is 32MB.
