STISIM Suggestions

The following are some administrative notes on the system requirements of the four computers in the STISIM Drive configuration at our driving simulator lab.

Networking
The following are facts about the STISIM Drive software networking requirements:

NetBIOS over TCP/IP is required.
All four computers must be in the same workgroup, recommended name is STISIM-NETWORK.
The hostnames of the computers must be listed appropriately in C:\STISIM\Data\STISIM.Net
NetBUI is not required

In addition, the dynamics computer must have it's drive shared. Probably a subfolder.

I found no dependance on the use of a goofy 101.101.101.x class C network. As long as all the computers are in the same Windows Workgroup and can find each other by WINS or by a NetBIOS Broadcast then all is well.

Dynamics Machine
There is a machine usually called STISIM-Dyanmics that runs the dynamics software and has some special hardware. That hardware requires the operation of a driver called WinRT.sys.

We have had no luck getting this driver to work. I can offer no other suggestions on it's proper installation or execution. It does appear to have a dependance on IRQ 9. We have seen the USB on a computer use IRQ 9 -- and this computer was having trouble starting the WinRT.sys driver.

It also must share a particular subfolder with STISIM-CENTER. It is advised to use care in establishing this share.

Center Machine Must be able to access the dynamics folder.

This is the host that contains the STISIM.NET file. Here is an example of what it should look like:
